Rosa Emily Stayner (1856-1950)

This posting covers the ancestry of Rosa Emily Stayner (1856-1950). Her parents were Mormon pioneers who were born in England and immigrated to Utah. The next posting will cover the ancestry of Thomas Washington White (1866-1939), whose parents were also Mormon pioneers who were born in England and immigrated to Utah.
These two great-grandparents of Michel L. Call are shown with a combined total of 222 known ancestors, of whom only 12 are highlighted in red as wrong or speculative in the familysearch versions of these postings. This error rate of only 5 percent is quite good. No separate scholars versions are required.
By contrast, ten postings were required to adequately cover the ancestry of Anson Vasco Call (1855-1944), husband of Rosa Emily Stayner. 1172 ancestors (to his 13th generation) are shown in the familysearch versions, with 435 highlighted in red as wrong or speculative. The ancestry of Amy Vilate Porter (1873-1927), wife of Thomas Washington White, will require eleven postings, with 1124 ancestors (to her 13th generation) shown in the familysearch versions, of whom 400 will be highlighted in red. Combined, 835 of the 2296 ancestors shown in the familysearch versions have been removed entirely or replaced with correct names in the scholars versions. This 36 percent error rate is unacceptable to serious genealogists.
The differences in ancestries and the magnitude of the problems associated with large New England ancestries are not unique to the above lines but are common to most Mormon pioneer lines. Most of the largest Mormon pioneer families have extensive New England ancestry. A fuller discussion of these differences and problems is warranted but will be reserved for another time (but see note on 19 July 2014 posting for Cyril Call).
